and, you know what else pisses me off?!
These so called "pros" or "veterans" on forums who never spontaneously offer anything insightful or educational.
Never offer up any free tips or advice.
Never offer an instructional tidbit just for fun.
All we ever seem to get is photos of "my latest project"
or snaps of "my appearance at SEMA"
or a few shots of "me and my friends pro 1, pro 2, pro 3 and the great pro 4!"
[I'm so sick of these goofs prancing and preening for the newbies.]

...oh, yeah, there is sometimes an offer to purchase their latest DVDs.

LOL LOL I just had to share a recent email rant, from a fellow artist and good friend!:

"I'm trying right now to immerse myself in art...lately I have lost all patience for it. I just don't know why sometimes I can't stand to even pick up a brush.
Have you read about the 7 year old girl who makes abstract paintings that sell for tens of thousands? Been selling them since she was 4. There's a movie about it on dvd now....forget the name.
I hate the art world....Though I heard John Waters explain the Andy Warhol soup can / jackson Pollack shit on the radio...he was the first one to explain the art world I don't understand.
Basically that type of art is supposed to anger and surprise you, then you accept it and it's great. The trick is you have to be the first one to do it. he said art is magic. So you really have to drink the Kool-Aid to buy into all this pretentious shit. I guess. If you ever read about the Yoko Ono art exhibit she had in the 60's when Lennon met her, you would puke. She had you climb a ladder and nail an imaginary painting to a wall with an imaginary hammer........uuuugghhhh.....the fukkin art world....rretch.

LOL ...artists, more fucked up than anyone else!
I'm not sure I understand everything he's saying.....but I know he's pissed!! LOL

at least now I know its not just me!! ha ha

Art...I don't get it...is the name of an article (and intro) on my website. It refers to not only my own feelings, but to an article by the very funny Dave Barry. Please take a look here: art...I don't get it

One of the things I complain about the most, is the "attitude" within the "art community". I'm sorry, but I guess I'm just a redneck, cause I never understood half the artwork produced in the last 100 years. I don't don't understand all the crap in the art galleries that looks like it was made by schoolkids or psychos! But I'll talk about that shit another time, right now I am commenting on the "attitude" of the "art lovers" and "afficionados" who pay thousands and millions of dollars for art they know nothin about, or try to explain the .art to us "none art type people".

You know what...if there is one thing I am really sure of, its: "if you have to explain it to me, then I am not interested!"

To me "art" is a creation (usually of humans, but nature is pretty good at it too) that doesn't require an explanation. The "art" pleases and invokes some kind of interest or emotion. A painting can do this, but so can a car or a movie or a fine meal or a scenic view. Screw you if you think you have have some godlike talent because you can "create art"!! Art is produced everyday and you are not that special!! ( sorry...I'll rag on egotistical artists another time!)

My Mother took a "China Painting" class. She now produced lovely little little "art" pieces that decorate her home and she gives as gifts. She takes blank "china" plates, bowls, cups, etc and using brushes and paste glazes, she paints flowers, wildlife and images on the pottery to be "fired". It takes patience, and concentration, and artistic talent and control to produce these wonderful little "art" pieces. They may not be DaVincis, and they may not be expensive to produce, but they are worthy of merit based on their quality, effort and look. But according to the "nose up each others asses" art community around here, my Mother was unable to enter some pieces in a local Gallery Contest because it wasn't considered "art". She was told that it wasn't recognized as being real "art".

These assholes wouldn't know real "art" if they had to produce it themselves! Which is exactly the first problem...they are all idiots when it comes to art, they can't draw or paint or sew or design a car...all they can do is pretend to be rich or important and attempt to create a private little community that they can pick and choose their members, and pretend to themselves that they are more important than anyone really cares! They try to tell me and others, what art is real "art" and what we should be liking or buying......fuck you......I will tell you what I like and what I want to look at.

I gotta go paint a rock....and throw it at an "art lover"

By all means, if you have a question or need some advice...ask. That's why I have sites like this one...because I remember what is was like when I started out and needed some help or info! And I remember some of the snobby attitudes of some of the "experienced" painters I spoke to. I vowed never to be like them, and have always offered as much info as possible to fellow artists and have expected the same in return.

Anyway, if you are looking for more, why not check out this site: www.airbrushartists.org It is a relatively new site, still growing and acquiring new members, but they offer a number of free services. Such as: a free gallery to post artwork and promote yourself, featured galleries and artists, places to advertise and promote your webpages and talents, as well as a Forum where you can discuss Airbrush related topics. Of course there is no cost to become a member and there are some great people associated with the site!

HOLD THE PRESSES!...just joined a great site! Great people! Great Forum! Having some trouble getting everyone involved, but with more members we just might get things moving again! Come and join us...www.airbrushers.com

Maybe its just me, but I am getting real sick of these "real flames".

Don't get me wrong, I think Mike Lavalee's flames are fantastic! I have seen some amazing layouts and paintjobs using real flame. And there are a number of other artists who have conquered the "real flame" approach!

But like many other ideas, it becomes too big of an idea and starts to appear in every artists portfolio and at every car show and in every custom paint job...and now it just isn't as special or unique or interesting as it was!!

And....if you can't paint real flames...learn how....or STOP!

My god, I have seen some nasty looking flame jobs!! What are these people thinking?!! Paint what you know...learn new techniques...master them, and then put them out for the public. I haven't tried real flames yet...don't know if I can do it...won't offer it as a service unless I know I can do it properly!

Okay...I think my poor dumb redneck head is going to explode!

I wanna know who these freakin art critics think we are? Who the hell is the art made for?! When I say "I don't get it"...the response is, "well you are just not smart enough" or "cultured enough" or "you just aren't educated in art enough" etc etc...and then these assholes go on and explain the art as if I have no clue what planet I'm on or why shit is brown! Quote: "The contrast between the supremely efficient cactus and the contrived efforts of man is both comic and insightful, highlighting the commercial exploitation of natural resources in the region."

...What the hell are you talking about?!

Hey I'm not stupid...I understand the statement...but what does it have to do with a simple ride on a electric bicycle, and then using some waste water to paint (quite a nice) picture of a cactus. If the "artist" had a preconceived "journey" in mind, good for him. But all I got in the end was a lovely little picture of a cactus, that I'll give you $99.95 (if its signed) and an electric bicycle that can get me to the shop for a case of beer.

So once again, I will be judged as one of the "lower forms" on this planet, who just doesn't "understand" and once again I ask "who is the art for?"...if I am expected to look at, use it, pay for it or take it home, treat me with a little respect and acknowledge the fact that if I don't get it...it may not be worth getting! And if it requires you explaining it to me, then it definately is not worth getting!!

And once again, I come across that art attitude bullshit.
Morons who start a group or club of so called "artists";
crafters, scrapbookers, cut and pasters...art card enthusiasts...

hey I have no problem with that stuff!
I cut and paste as good as the next idiot...but that doesn't all of a sudden make you a Michaelangelo! And then the noses go up into the air!
Judging every newcomer as if they invented art...

I'm taking my crayons and going home!
